How to Track Your Device Remotely with Open Device Manager in Android

Track Your Device Remotely with Open Device Manager

Few months ago, Android Device Manager was introduced by Google. This application allows you to track your device and wipe all data if needed. It is a relatively solid protection against data loss because you can easily and remotely wipe your contacts, photos, and data. There is one big disadvantage that just like many other Google first party apps, Device Manager is closed source and it can't be reviewed by other developers.

We didn't have to wait too long for an alternative. XDA Senior Member created an open source replacement to Android Device Manager. Both web interface and Android application are pushed as a source code. With Open Device Manager, you are able to:
  • Lock your device
  • Take photos with real and front cameras
  • Alert ringer to locate the phone
  • Send a custom notification
  • Receive an SMS to identify
  • Wipe your device
  • Log of all previous activity
The App is in testing stage, so installation isn't the easiest. Keep in mind that having this application installed can not possibly give you perfect data theft protection.
